Hydrocortisone

Indications/Uses

Adrenocortical insufficiency (Addison's disease), diminution of anterior pituitary function (hypopituitarism), congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Systemic glucocorticoid therapy.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult Substitution therapy 20-30 mg daily, of which approx ²/₃ in the morning & ¹/₃ early in the evening. Other indications 40-200 mg daily in short-term use. Childn Individualised dosage. Adrenocortical insufficiency 7.5-15 mg/m² daily in 3 equally divided doses (immediately in the morning, in the afternoon, late in the evening). Congenital adrenal hyperplasia 10 mg/m² daily in 3 divided doses. Hypopituitarism 2.5 mg tds.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. TB & other acute or chronic bacterial & viral infections w/o antibiotic or chemotherapeutic protection.
