Indications/Uses
Reduction of urate/uric acid formation in conditions where urate/uric acid deposition has already occurred (eg, gouty arthritis, skin tophi, nephrolithiasis) or predictable clinical risk (eg, malignancy potentially leading to acute uric acid nephropathy). Management of 2,8-dihydroxyadenine renal stones related to deficient activity of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase; recurrent mixed calcium oxalate renal stones in the presence of hyperuricosuria, when fluid, dietary & similar measures have failed.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 100 mg daily, may increased only if w/ unsatisfactory serum urate response. Alternatively, 2-10 mg/kg daily. Mild conditions 100-200 mg daily. Moderately severely conditions 300-600 mg daily. Severe conditions 700-900 mg daily. Childn <15 yr 10-20 mg/kg daily. Max: 400 mg daily. Elderly Lowest dosage which produced satisfactory urate reduction. Severe renal impairment <100 mg daily or single dose of 100 mg at longer intervals than 1 day. Dialysis (2-3x wkly) 300-400 mg after each dialysis session.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
