Indications/Uses
Hypertonic dehydration, partial coverage of energy requirements, vehicle soln for compatible electrolyte concentrates & medicinal products.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult & elderly Individualized dosage. Max daily dose: 40 mL/kg (approx glucose 2 g/kg). Max infusion rate: Up to 5 mL/kg/hr (approx glucose 0.25 g/kg/hr).
Contraindications
Hyperhydration states. Dehydration w/ hyponatraemia. Head trauma (1st 24 hr). Persistent hyperglycaemia not responding to insulin doses of up to 6 u/hr. Not to be used in childn except in paed specialist settings (eg, renal, hepatic & cardiac, & high dependency units & ICU) under expert medical supervision.
