Indications/Uses
Replacement of extracellular fluid losses in case of isotonic dehydration where acidosis is present or imminent.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult, elderly & adolescent 500 mL to 3 L/24 hr, corresponding to 1-6 mmol Na/kg/24 hr & 0.03-0.17 mmol K/kg/24 hr. Childn & infant 20-100 mL/kg/24 hr, corresponding to 3-14 mmol Na/kg/24 hr & 0.08-0.4 mmol K/kg/24 hr. Ave infusion rate: 5 mL/kg/hr. Childn 2-11 yr Infusion rate: 2-4 mL/kg/hr. Toddler Infusion rate: 4-6 mL/kg/hr. Infant Infusion rate: 6-8 mL/kg/hr.
Contraindications
Hypervolemia. Severe CHF. Severe general oedema. Hyperkalaemia. Hypercalcaemia. Metabolic alkalosis. Renal failure w/ oliguria or anuria.
