Indications/Uses
Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones in the gallbladder. Bile reflux gastritis. Symptomatic treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), in patients w/o decompensated hepatic cirrhosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones Adult 10 mg/kg daily as single dose to be taken at bedtime. Patient weighing >100 kg Total daily dose: 1,250 mg (5 cap), 81-100 kg Total daily dose: 1,000 mg (4 cap), 61-80 kg Total daily dose: 750 mg (3 cap), up to 60 kg Total daily dose: 500 mg (2 cap). Bile reflux gastritis 250 mg once daily in the evening before bedtime. Symptomatic treatment of PBC 14 ± 2 mg/kg daily to be taken as divided doses over the day for the 1st 3 mth. May be taken once daily in the evening when liver function parameters improve. Patient weighing >110 kg 2 cap (morning), 2 cap (midday), 3 cap (evening) for the 1st 3 mth; subsequently, 7 cap in the evening, 94-110 kg 2 cap (morning), 2 cap (midday), 2 cap (evening) for the 1st 3 mth; subsequently, 6 cap in the evening, 79-93 kg 1 cap (morning), 2 cap (midday), 2 cap (evening) for the 1st 3 mth; subsequently, 5 cap in the evening, 63-78 kg 1 cap (morning), 1 cap (midday), 2 cap (evening) for the 1st 3 mth; subsequently, 4 cap in the evening, 47-62 kg 1 cap (morning), 1 cap (midday), 1 cap (evening) for the 1st 3 mth; subsequently, 3 cap in the evening.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole w/ sufficient amount of fluids, do not chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts. Occlusion of extrahepatic bile ducts (eg, choledochus or cystic duct). Frequent episodes of biliary colic. Radio-opaque calcified gallstones. Impaired contractility of the gallbladder.
