Contents
Plantago ovata seed, ispaghula husk.
Description
Bulking and swelling agent for stool regulation.
Composition: 100 g granules contain Seeds of Plantago ovata 65.0 g, Ispaghula husk 2.2 g.
1 teaspoonful contains approx. 0.9 g sucrose.
Action
Agiocur is a vegetable bulking material. On swelling, it regulates the disturbed intestinal function in the following ways: it increases the volume of the intestinal contents; it loosens the stools by increasing their water contents; it solidifies watery stools by soaking up fluid.
Indications/Uses
For the relief of occasional constipation and diarrhoea. For stool regulation as a result of being bedridden, after an operation, in case of haemorrhoids and in pregnancy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Unless otherwise directed, adults should take 2 teaspoonfuls after the evening meal (at least one hour before retiring), and, if necessary, 1 teaspoonful before breakfast. In case of tendency to diarrhoea, adults should initially (for 1 to 3 days) take 2 teaspoonfuls of Agiocur three times daily, and, if necessary, thereafter 1 teaspoonful three times daily. Schoolchildren should take half the adult dose. Agiocur should be swallowed unchewed with plenty of fluid (e.g. 1 to 2 glasses of water). The daily fluid intake should be 1-2 litres.
Always close the container!
Contraindications
Agiocur should not be administered during suspected or existing ileus, or stenosis within the gastrointestinal tract, especially in the area of oesophagus.
Special Precautions
With severe and persistent diarrhoea, which does not respond to Agiocur, a doctor should be consulted in order to establish the cause and to check the electrolytes (potassium in particular).
Side Effects
Possible symptoms, such as flatulence and bloating sensation that are already present, may be reinforced in the first days of treatment; they disappear, however, when treatment is continued.
Drug Interactions
Bulking agents and antidiarrhoeics, which inhibit intestinal motility, e.g. diphenoxylate, diphenoxine, loperamide hydrochloride and opiates, may not be administered simultaneously (danger of intestinal obstruction).

Do not store over 25°C. Once the container is opened, the product should be used within 6 months.
