Contents
Per 5 mL Pseudoephedrine HCl 15 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 1 mg
Indications/Uses
Relieves sneezing, nasal congestion due to common cold.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 10 mL 3 times daily, 6-12 yr 5 mL 3 times daily, 2-5 yr 2.5 mL 3 times daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other sympathomimetic drugs (eg, ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine HCl, phenylephrine). Severe HTN or uncontrolled high BP. Concomitant MAOI antidepressant therapy. Severe acute & CKD or w/ kidney failure.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if the patient experience insomnia, palpitation, dizziness. Glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, hyperthyroidism, urinary retention, heart disorders, DM. Concomitant use w/ other CNS depressants. Patients w/ or potential to develop HTN or stroke eg, overwt. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Liver & kidney dysfunction. Not recommended in pregnancy & nursing women. Not recommended in childn <2 yr. Elderly. Pseudoephedrine: Discontinue use if posterior reversible encephalopathy & reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome occur.
Adverse Reactions
Insomnia, headache, excitation, tremor, tachycardia, arrhythmia, palpitation, urination difficulty, & GI disturbance. Nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures &/or visual disturbances. Chlorpheniramine: Drowsiness & dry mouth.
Drug Interactions
May cause hypertensive crisis w/ MAOI antidepressant. Central-acting agents (sympathomimetics, antidepressants) may be increased by pseudoephedrine HCl or chlorpheniramine.
